Spring Refresh!

Time to get your home ready for Spring!

The first official day of Spring is March 20th so it is RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER.  You know it’s getting close when our weather becomes bi-polar and can’t decide if it is going to hot, freezing, perfect, rainy, sunny or sleeting from literally one hour to the next.  I have to look not only at the daily temperature but the hourly temperature to make sure I’m dressed right for the day because one hour could be a 20-degree swing!  But I digress, crazy weather is not what this blog is about.  It’s about welcoming the new season into your home life and transitioning your space from Winter to Spring. There are three simple things I think you can do to really feel the change in your home.

Clean and Declutter

First – declutter and clean.  Yes, Spring Cleaning is a cliché but it truly is a great time to give your home a good scrubbing.  Don’t forget baseboards, ceiling fans, pull things out from your cabinets and give them a good wipe down.  To me, nothing feels better then feeling like my home doesn’t have a layer of dog hair and dirt everywhere.  Is it going to stay clean? Absolutely not but at least you are giving the dirt a fresh canvas to attach to!

Cleaning also gives me a chance to declutter.  If I take things out of a cabinet and realize I haven’t used said thing in years – it really needs to find a new home to live in. There are so many wonderful organizations who would love the items you don’t use and many of them will come right to your home to pick them up! OR, if you want to make a little money, use social media and sell your items.  I’m amazed at how quickly things sell on Facebook Marketplace, Craigs List, Posh mark, etc.  The whole point though is to get things out of your house that you don’t need!

Next - Add a Pop of Color and Pattern

Okay, now your house is clean and decluttered right?  Feels fresher and brighter already!  Next, introduce some pops of color and pattern to your room.  Throw pillows are a great way to do this!  Etsy, always has GREAT pillows with designer fabrics such as Schumacher and Brunschwig  and Fils. Search for them based on the colors you’d like to incorporate – you won’t be disappointed.

Custom Lamp Shades

Another way to bring in color and pattern is to cover your white lamp shade with some fabulous spring fabric.  You can DIY this buy applying your own fabric to a current lampshade (Google DIY lampshades) or you can buy a super fun shade such as this one from Wolf and Badger – great colors and pattern!

Bring the Outdoors In!

Lastly, bring the outdoors in!  One of my favorite ways to freshen up a house for spring is to bring in the fresh flowers.  Peony season is short, so I try and grab them as soon as I see them.  I also love Tulips and Hydrangeas during this time of year.  Nothing feels more festive and spring-like than a beautiful arrangement of pastel flowers displayed in your home.

Hope this helps you get ready for Spring!  It can’t get here fast enough for this warm weather loving girl!!!
