Designing A Killer Closet

When you are designing your master bathroom suite, don’t forget the closet!  There are so many ways to make your closet your own unique space and if you are lucky enough to have his and hers closets – this is a chance to go as feminine or as masculine as you want to because the space is all yours!

Closets, more than anything, need to be functional, so when designing your closet, take a look at your wardrobe.  Do you have a large jewelry collection you want to be able to see? Are you an avid purse collector and change your purse on a daily basis, needing easy access to all of them? Do you love things freshly ironed and want an ironing station set up in your closet?  All things to think of when designing your perfect space.

Some of the things I’ve done in closets is set up a desk/vanity area.  In the closet above I added a vanity portion to the island so that the client could sit down to do their make up, put on their jewelry or make last minute plans for the day!  That is the functional portion.  As far as design, we kept it light and bright with Quadrille wall paper and a gorgeous Curry and Company chandelier.  Lighting, window treatments and wallpaper are easy ways to make your closet unique and reflect your personality.  Go as bold as you’d like and really make the room a statement!

Other ways to make your closet a functional space is to really determine the items you’ll be accessing the most and design around that.  For instance are you a sweater and jeans kind of person?  Consider creating your island with open shelving.  You can place your jeans and sweaters on the shelves and not risk getting hanger marks on your sweaters and taking up a ton of hanging space with your jeans.

You can also add baskets and bins to the shelves to hold scarves, bathing suites and cover ups or any other items that tend to not have a place to live.  Identifying a space makes sure they stay neat and tidy, your closet doesn’t look cluttered and you know where to find everything. To find more tips about putting together a fabulous closest, check out The Spruce – one of my closets is featured in their article “15 Closest Island Ideas You’ll Want to Set Up Yourself” you can find it here https://www.thespruce.com/closet-island-ideas-5214401.  They talk about great tips from a scarf station, to a bag display, adding mirrors, etc.

So tackle that closet – big or small, you can always add things to make it a more functional, more unique space. Have fun with it!
